Tell Laos to Close Down Cruel Monkey Farms!

A recent investigation into monkey farms in Laos revealed shocking conditions: Monkeys were confined to barren concrete enclosures and denied basic care. Shocking photos from the investigation show severely emaciated monkeys, dead monkeys left to rot in cages with live monkeys, monkeys with injuries from fighting because of crowded conditions, and monkeys exhibiting repetitive behaviors, having been driven insane from confinement.
On these farms, thousands of monkeys are kept and bred for the animal experimentation industry. They are shipped to China and Vietnam, where they may be re-exported to laboratories in Europe and the United States.

You Can Help
Please take a moment to write to officials in Laos and demand that they close down the cruel monkey farms that are tarnishing the nation's reputation.

Torturing animals

Many will find excuses for this
They will say it is necessary
They will say it will help humankind to be more free of misery
There are no excuses — it is a crime against life
It is a crime taking place throughout the World..

Harm and Suffering
The question is not, can they reason, nor, can they talk. But, can they suffer?
–Jeremy Bentham

Vivisection is one of the worst forms of institutionalized animal abuse in our society, and it is a sanctioned and legal abuse. Within laboratory walls, what can be done to animals has no limit except those imposed by a committee selected by the facility itself. Imagine spending your entire life as a hospital patient or prisoner, and this will only begin to approximate the life of an animal in a laboratory. What happens to you can range from uncomfortable to agonizing to deadly—and you are helpless to defend yourself.

Animals in labs live stressful, monotonous, and unnatural lives of daily confinement and deprivation. The only changes in their lives may come from being called into a research or testing protocol—which may include an invasive experiment, or a procedure whose endpoint is death.

Every year in the U.S., over 25 million animals are used in biomedical experimentation, product and cosmetic testing, and science education. This includes—dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, pigs, sheep, monkeys, chimpanzees, and more. However, the majority of animals in labs (over 90 percent) are rats, mice, and birds. Some estimates place them in the tens to hundreds of millions.

Painful protocols
In research and testing, animals are subjected to experiments that can include everything from testing new drugs to infecting with diseases, poisoning for toxicity testing, burning skin, causing brain damage, implanting electrodes into the brain, maiming, blinding, and other painful and invasive procedures. It can include protocols that cause severe suffering, such as long-term social isolation, electric shocks, withholding of food and water, or repeated breeding and separating of infants from mothers. In toxicity testing, animals used in chronic toxicity and carcinogenicity studies receive the test substance daily, seven days a week, for up to two years with no recovery periods. Many, if not most, animals die before the end of the study. With the exception of chimpanzees, animals who survive their use in research and testing can be killed after the study is completed.

Many animal experiments utilize restraining devices, designed to prevent an animal from moving. Some research projects call for immobilization of specific parts of an animal’s body—head and neck, legs and pelvis—while other protocols involve immobilization of an animal’s entire body. For example, researchers at several major U.S. universities have all conducted “stress experiments” on rats and mice. These experiments included immobilizing mice and rats in tubes, shocking their feet, suspending them by their tails, and forcing them to swim to avoid drowning. Researchers claimed these experiments had relevance to human anxiety and depression. Although restraint is particularly stressful and frustrating for an animal, some experiments are designed to hold animals in partial or total immobilization for months.

Anesthetization, intubation, and euthanasia are also common lab procedures which require extensive training and skill. When improperly performed, these procedures cause extreme pain and discomfort. For example, if a researcher uses a paralyzing agent on an animal but does not monitor vital signs to make sure she/he is adequately anesthetized, there is a great chance that the animal is actually experiencing pain but unable to move. Unfortunately, in some cases, the lab personnel often lack the experience and training—and sometimes the sensitivity—needed to avoid unnecessary animal suffering.

The areas of xenotransplantation (transplanting cells, tissues, or organs from one species into another species) and genetic engineering also create a great deal of suffering and death for animals. Genetic engineering consumes and destroys untold volumes of animals in attempts to create animals with specific traits. Nonhuman primates, cats, dogs, mice, rats, and others have all been subjected to genetic manipulation. Many of these animals die, while suffering from abnormalities and other diseased conditions.

Daily existence
Animals in labs suffer not only pain from protocols, but also severe stress from day-to-day laboratory life. They spend their lives in barren cages, unable to make choices or express natural behaviors. Most never experience fresh air or sunshine, only bars and concrete. Those few facilities that provide some outside caging typically rotate the animals, giving them limited and infrequent amounts of time outdoors. Standard lab conditions, such as small, crowded cages, lack of enrichment, loud noises, and bright lights out of sync with natural lighting are all known to create stress in animals who in turn show physical symptoms of the stress, including chronic inflammatory conditions. Studies show that mice are capable of empathy and become even more stressed when witnessing other mice in distress. Other research documents the long-lasting effects on chimpanzees from the stress and trauma of living in a lab and being used in research and testing. In 2009, an undercover lab investigation revealed monkeys frantically spinning around and around in their cages, biting open wounds, mutilating themselves, and ripping out their own hair, all because of the chronic psychological distress they must endure. The term used for this is “stress-induced psychosis”—laboratories are literally driving these animals crazy. After seeing footage of chimpanzees from this same investigation, famed primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall stated, “In no lab I have visited have I seen so many chimpanzees exhibit such intense fear. The screaming I heard when chimpanzees were being forced to move toward the dreaded needle in their squeeze cages was, for me, absolutely horrifying.”

For all of the animals trapped in labs, their day-to-day existence is traumatic in itself—even without their forced participation in one dreaded protocol after another. They experience ongoing mental and physical suffering from the endless boredom, confinement, fear, and emotional stress of daily laboratory life. Add to this the fear and agony of a procedure, and only then can we start to understand the desperation and pain in which they live, every day—and for most, for their entire lives.

Legal protection: reality or rhetoric?
The Animal Welfare Act (AWA) is the only federal law that provides even minimal protection for animals in laboratories. However, it specifically excludes rats, mice, and birds bred for research, who constitute over 90 percent of animals in labs. For the approximately 10 percent of warm-blooded animals in labs who are covered under the AWA, the law covers husbandry only—meaning specific standards for their housing, feeding, and handling, including veterinary care. It does not prohibit any kind of experiment regardless of the amount of pain or distress it might cause. Instead, it requires oversight committees (called Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees, or IACUCs) to review and approve research protocols. These are composed and overseen by the research facility itself and are widely regarded as “rubber stamp” committees. Their members are primarily animal researchers, and the facility’s CEO selects everyone on the committee. As a result, IACUCs allow the majority of proposed experiments, regardless of the amount of suffering they inflict. If deemed “necessary” to the study, researchers can even withhold pain medication.

According to USDA’s latest available figures (2009), 7.8 percent of all AWA covered animals in labs underwent painful procedures without the benefits of pain relief. However, it is assumed that the degree of pain endured is grossly underreported, as no objective criteria is in place to guarantee accurate perception and reporting of pain and suffering. Under current federal law, the administration of pain relief is discretionary, rather than mandatory. When a researcher or attending veterinarian feels that analgesics, anesthesia, or tranquilizers will confound the results of an experiment, pain relief can be legally withheld. This concept of “necessary pain” is basic to the spirit of the AWA, which specifically states that its intent is not to regulate or restrict the planning and performance of experimental designs and protocols. One career researcher, for example, reported chronic diarrhea in monkeys in labs as “normal.” Another claimed the “rocking back and forth” is something “they just do”—so inured are they to the suffering animals in labs endure. In short, while the AWA and the IACUC system purport to ensure “humane” treatment of animals in labs, this system is so limited and so plagued with loopholes that these animals have little or no protection.

Research shows that people accept animal research only when they think that animals don’t suffer, and that it’s scientifically necessary. In fact, they do suffer and it is not necessary. We can attest to this today in a way that we never could in the past. NEAVS’ science team has methodically looked at the use of animals in research and published papers in peer-reviewed journals that demonstrate that animal research is not necessary, is not predictive for humans, and is often irrelevant, inaccurate, or even dangerous for human health. The facts make it clear that we can save animals and humans when we replace animal research with alternative methods that deliver effective, predictive, human-relevant results. In short, we can end the harm and suffering of the animals and better benefit human health.

Low-Protein Diet Slows Alzheimer's in Mice
Feb. 14, 2013 — Mice with many of the pathologies of Alzheimer's Disease showed fewer signs of the disease when given a protein-restricted diet supplemented with specific amino acids every other week for four months.
Share This:

107
Mice at advanced stages of the disease were put on the new diet. They showed improved cognitive abilities over their non-dieting peers when their memory was tested using mazes. In addition, fewer of their neurons contained abnormal levels of a damaged protein, called "tau," which accumulates in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.
Dietary protein is the major dietary regulator of a growth hormone known as IGF-1, which has been associated with aging and diseases in mice and several diseases in older adults.
Upcoming studies by USC Professor Valter Longo, the study's corresponding author, will attempt to determine whether humans respond similarly -- while simultaneously examining the effects of dietary restrictions on cancer, diabetes and cardiac disease.
"We had previously shown that humans deficient in Growth Hormone receptor and IGF-I displayed reduced incidence of cancer and diabetes. Although the new study is in mice, it raises the possibility that low protein intake and low IGF-I may also protect from age-dependent neurodegeneration," said Longo, who directs the Longevity Institute of the USC Davis School of Gerontology and has a joint appointment the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
Longo worked with Pinchas Cohen, dean of the USC Davis School, as well as USC graduate students Edoardo Parrella, Tom Maxim, Lu Zhang, Junxiang Wan and Min Wei; Francesca Maialetti of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome; and Luigi Fontana of Washington University in St. Louis.
"Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of neurodegeneration are a major burden on society, and it is a rising priority for this nation to develop new approaches for preventing and treating these conditions, since the frequencies of these disorders will be rising as the population ages over the next several decades," said Cohen, who became dean of the School of Gerontology in summer 2012. "New strategies to address this, particularly non-invasive, non-pharmacological approaches such as tested in Dr. Longo's study are particularly exciting."
The results of their study were published online by Aging Cell last month.
The team found that a protein-restricted diet reduced levels of IGF-1 circulating through the body by 30 to 70 percent, and caused an eight-fold increase in a protein that blocks IGF-1's effects by binding to it.
IGF-1 helps the body grow during youth but is also associated with several diseases later in life in both mice and humans. Exploring dietary solutions to those diseases as opposed to generating pharmaceuticals to manipulate IGF-1 directly allows Longo's team to make strides that could help sufferers today or in the next few years.
"We always try to do things for people who have the problem now," Longo said. "Developing a drug can take 15 years of trials and a billion dollars.
"Although only clinical trials can determine whether the protein-restricted diet is effective and safe in humans with cognitive impairment, a doctor could read this study today and, if his or her patient did not have any other viable options, could consider introducing the protein restriction cycles in the treatment -- understanding that effective interventions in mice may not translate into effective human therapies," he said.
Many elderly individuals may have already be frail, have lost weight or may not be healthy enough to eat a protein-restricted diet every other week. Longo strongly insisted that any dieting be monitored by a doctor or registered dietician to make sure that patients do not become amino acid deficient, lose additional weight or develop other side effects.

Imagine the scene. You’re trapped in stocks. Unable to move. Terrified. Beside you are others, suffering the same fate. You can sense their fear. Then a hand comes down upon you. A toxic chemical is dripped into your eyes; the burning inflammation may last for days. You squirm to get free, cry out, but it doesn’t work. You are relieved when the hands put you back in your cage. Until it happens all over again.Stop imagining. This is the reality for countless animals across the globe. Please donate today to help stop the suffering. The reason these experiments are conducted is shocking. It’s to make a new moisturiser. Produce a new perfume. Research a new hair dye.The time to end animal testing for cosmetics is NOW.Animals that we would think of as companions– that millions of people spend time loving and caring for – are reduced to mere tools in a laboratory. We need to convince governments across the world that the public is on our side. We need to raise vital awareness, campaign in every country we can, show that the humane alternatives do exist and speak to key decision makers from politicians to regulators and cosmetic companies. But we desperately need your help.Time is running out for these animals with every day that passes. Can you help Cruelty Free International end this practice and save countless animals from suffering in cruel experiments?Thank you for your consideration

hi you all my brothers and sisters!the LORD will bless his people with peace Psalm 29;JESUS CHRIST said: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Seek JESUS CHRIST, seek Salvation, turn to HIM !

Time to act!Something has to be done in theses case of extreme cruelty! The world goverments should not Ignore this! they should treat this as a CRIME! Failure to do this is just stating that they are no better than the persons who committed this crime in the first place. We humans are appalled at the way the goverments just don't care! and turn a blind eye to these everyday crimes!Don't forget this improtant thing : When you sign petitions or send emails to the concerned authorities , you could be animal saviors , yes , it is true ! Because when a lot of people send emails , the authorities can decide to listen to the people and so to end their cruel experiments on animals in an university or hospital for instance , or to stop using dogs and cats from shelters to do cruel experiments on them , ect . So please , understand that you must not stop to send the emails, mesages and sign the petitions because you could be condemning these innocent lives to a certain death . It's simple : if we send the things, we make change,s we save lives. If we don't = they die ! It's as simple as that . Not always, but sometimes if they want to listen to the People, the authorities stop killing certain animals. So yes, sometimes acting with these little actions do more than we think. Doesn't seem like it but it actually save lives to send and sign the emails, messages and petitions.

Please if you guys are still using products tested on animals, please STOP for GOD's sake.I am asking but GOD is commanding because it's not facultatif,it's MANDATORY according to GOD that all his human children respect his animal children. If you say i respect all animals but i use products that were tested on them then you guys dont know what RESPECT means. You can't respect creatures that were killed because of YOU because you aid for their deaths. It's like saying if we replace animals by humans in this sentence:i respect humans even though i used products tested on humans, products that KILLED humans. Then you wouldn't say this sentence because it's cruel and forbidden by GOD to kill humans or to make others kill humans. Why then do you guys find acceptable to kill animals? It's unfair and wicked to kill humans but not to kill animals?Who put that crazy diea inside your heads?Probablythe malign and societies of this world because that is =brainwashing.Make believe a whole spieces, the human one ,one thing that is completely false like animals dont deserve respect,if you want you can respect them but it's not mandatory. That is the brainwashing of the malign.Because that is the thoughts of humans and of the malign,of humans who don't obey GOD,don't obey HIM and disagree with HIM and rebel against HIM.We msut lsiten to GOD only, not to what humans tell us or to the voice of the malign disguised in our own voices in our heads so GOD tell us be vegans so we can't use products tested on animals because you Christians really think GOD created animals who HE loves so much so that his human kids can torture them in labs????Do you truly thing GOD is evil????!!!! He wants the best for animals,HE wants them to be as happy as humans,as respect and well treated as humans. He wants hapiness and good health and good treatment and life free of abuse for all his animals kids. That's the truth so we cant use and bu products tested on animals because it is GOD's law and we must obey GOD's law.

humankind reduced animal to slavery. We MUST and we will FIGHT evil! that the malign is doing to GOD's creations made of animals and humans and vegetables and to this planet,GOD's planet. We need all of you.Whatever happens,we can't step back. It's time to get this over with mans dominion over the animals.Nothings scares us.We must restore the peace on planet earth.Do you guys wanna be justicers of PEACE?

If you guys don't like animals you don't like GOD because GOD is the father of all creatures and he loves and cares for them.So you 're bad humans if you don't care about animals because it means you don't care about GOD.GOD commands you all to respect his animal children. Go in peace to love and serve the LORD.The LORD stood by all animals and all of us and gave us strenght. The LORD will rescue us from every evil threat an will bring us safely into his kingdom. The grace and peace of GOD our FATHER and the LORD JESUS CHRIST be with you all animals and humans.

Urge Feds to Stop Funding Sick Animal Sex Experiments

When an agency like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) throws about $15 billion each year—nearly half its entire research budget—at thousands of experiments on animals, it's impossible for the public to keep track of all the cruel and useless projects for which its tax dollars are being squandered to cause animals pain and suffering.

And even though public opposition to experiments on animals is greater than ever, there is apparently no project too trivial or too stupid for NIH to throw money at.

Case in point: Right now, NIH is funding dozens of bizarre, stomach-churning sexual behavior studies in which animals have the sexual pleasure area of their brains damaged and their genitals mutilated. Animals are sexually stimulated by experimenters, observed having sex, and subjected to other twisted procedures.

NIH has spent tens of millions of taxpayer dollars on these sex experiments, and these five are just some of the most upsetting projects currently receiving funding:

1. Mice and rats electrically stimulated after penises mutilated and injected with chemicals

Location: Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland
Experiments: Experimenters cut all the skin off the penises of live mice and rats, electrically stimulated their penises with electrodes for up to five minutes, and injected their penises with various chemicals to see if they'd sustain an erection. The animals were then killed, and their penises were cut apart.
Cost to taxpayers: $2,792,144

2. Mice's sex drive tested after brains burned

Location: Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts
Experiments: Experimenters locked female mice into restraint devices, drilled holes into their skulls, and burned lesions into their brains. The females were then presented with urine samples from castrated and intact males, and the amount of time they spent sniffing each urine sample was recorded. In a subsequent experiment, the females were placed with males and the females' sexual receptivity as indicated by their back-arching behavior was observed and rated. All of the mice were killed and dissected.
Cost to taxpayers: $1,505,173

3. Rats' sex drive tested following Prozac injections and removal of ovaries

Location: Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas
Experiments: Experimenters injected female rats with antidepressant drugs and placed them with male hamsters. The females' sexual receptivity, as indicated by the downward arching of their backs, was observed and measured. The experimenters then manipulated the female rats, surgically removing their ovaries and injecting sex hormones, and again observed the rats' sexual behavior.
Cost to taxpayers: $2,024,949

4. Hamsters' sex drive tested following brain damage

Location: University of California–Berkeley, Berkeley, California
Experiments: Experimenters cut into the skulls of female hamsters and implanted tubes into their brains and pumps into their scalps. Saline or hormones related to sexual behavior were pumped into the females' brains, and the animals were videotaped as they were able to see, smell, and hear—but not touch—a male hamster. The sexual receptivity of the females to male hamsters was measured through their vaginal scent markings. Experimenters used brushes to stimulate the female hamsters, and the extent of sexual receptivity as indicated by their back-arching behavior was observed and rated. The animals were then killed, and their brains were dissected.
Cost to taxpayers: $1,817,502

5. Rats' interest in drugs tested following brain damage and sex withdrawal

Location: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan
Experiments: Experimenters measured the time taken for male rats to mount females, insert their penises, and ejaculate. The experimenters then restrained the rats, cut into their skulls, implanted tubes into their brains, and pumped in a chemical that would block the rats' ability to process sexual pleasure. The experimenters then watched the rats having sex, withheld sex from the rats for seven to 28 days, and noted the rats' increased interest in an amphetamine reward. All the animals were killed, and their brains were dissected.
Cost to taxpayers: $4,547,605

Please help PETA end this obscene cruelty by asking NIH to cut taxpayer funding for sex experiments on animals.

Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights? READ MORE.

Here's the petition for forwarding to your friends:

Stop your cruel and deadly experiments on animals!

Petition against the biggest Vivisection lab in Germany!
Since 40 years this lab kills thousands of animals every year! None of the animals at the LPT lab in Hamburg /Germany (beagle dogs, cats, mice monkeys, rats, pigs) leave the lab alive! All of the animals either die during experiments or get directly get killed in the lab!
LPT uses the following test-methods during their experiments:
- oral giving of medications / chemicals
- infusion
- inhalation
- injection in animals abdominal cavity / skin / vagina / eye / joint / anal orifice !!
(source: http://www.lpt-pharm-tox.de/Services.html)
None of these animals survive in this lab. They die during the experiment or get killed directly after. Then they get used as heating material (all these facts are confirmed by the responsible veterinary)!
Experimenst on animals are cruel and pure torture and murder on the animals. Same time they are completly absurd. Since decades scientists have presented proof that there are alternative methods without animals!
2011 in Germany 2,9 Million animals got killed in labs for vivisection! This has to stop immediately!

31 OCTOBER 2013

Chance for stopping animal experiments! Sign till 1 November! European Citizens' Initiative

In June 2012 an European Citizens' Initiative “Stop vivisection” has been launched having the main objective an European legislative framework aimed at phasing out animal experiments, considering clear ethical objections to animal experiments and solid scientific principles that invalidate the “animal model” for predicting human response. The European Citizens' Initiative asks the European Commission to eliminate the animal experiments and replace them with alternative methods, non-animal techniques that frequently prove cheaper, quicker, more sensitive, and more adaptable and effective. 1 November is the last day when you can sign saying NO to animal experimentation and urge the European Union to eliminate the animal experiments. 1 million signatures of European citizens are necessary for taking part in legislative decision making process of the European Union.

The Continuation of the abuse these poor animals are suffering Must be brought to an End. We urge that You Eric P Sandgren Put an End to these useless Experiments which are doing nothing but exposing innocent living beings to extreme torture and pain, distress and Death. Together we can stop this abuse of animals and prevent many more from ever becoming test subjects in some laboratory.

Experimenters have justified the use of 30 cats like Double Trouble per year.

UW staff ultimately determined that their experiment with Double Trouble was a failure, and they killed and decapitated her so that they could examine her brain.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison fought for more than three years to keep these photographs of Double Trouble's abuse a secret until a successful PETA lawsuit compelled the university to release the disturbing images.

WARNING: The photographs that follow are graphic.

NFL = Animal Hell: Tell NFL to STOP Bashing in Animals' Heads!

The NFL season has been underway only for a week, but PETA is already throwing a flag against the league for unnecessary roughness—against animals. PETA released evidence—including shocking photos—showing how for years, the NFL Foundation has quietly funded horrific and deadly sports-injury experiments on dogs, mice, rats, and other animals at universities and private laboratories, including Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of California–Los Angeles. Bashing in animals' heads is wrong, and experts agree that these horrible experiments don't actually reflect the complex injuries sustained by football players. Tell NFL officials to stop funding cruel and wasteful experiments on animals and to instead support humane and relevant non-animal research methods. Take action TODAY: http://links.causes.com/s/clMgg1?r=B9Wr

The last three weeks have been incredible! As someone who cares about animals, I'm delighted to be able to share this news with you. As you know, animals across the globe are subject to a range of horrific tests, all in the name of producing new cosmetics products - and this practice is still legal in 80% of the world's countries. But last month, we announced the ground-breaking news – that China is proposing to abolish its requirement for cosmetics to be animal-tested before they reach the high street!

you can help stop the cruelty behind cosmetics

And it seems that more and more countries are jumping on the cruelty-free bandwagon! In Brazil we were delighted to have delivered over 100,000 signatures to the parliament requesting a ban on animal tests for cosmetics.  Just two weeks on, we are thrilled that our fast-paced campaign has now achieved more than 120,000 supporters, with backing from high profile local celebrity Luisa Mell.Russia too, is making steps towards becoming cruelty-free, with the Russian authorities officially confirming to our team that they will allow non-animal tests for cosmetics to be accepted. And an EU-style ban on the sale of animal tested cosmetics may be on the cards in India, with the official advisory body making a formal recommendation last week. This follows the announcement earlier in the year that India will ban animal testing for cosmetics in the country.

The above achievements – all in the last month – demonstrate how hard work and commitment truly does pay off in creating lasting change for animals.Cruelty Free International is a small organisation with a very big vision – a world where no mouse, rabbit, guinea pig or rat has to suffer the cruelty of product testing. Step-by-step, we are getting closer to our goal, but we need your help to accomplish even more.Animals are suffering in the name of beauty. Please help us save them from a life of cruelty!Your support means so much.

Victory! PETA Donation Ends Deadly Animal Labs in Nine Countries

Thousands of dogs, pigs, goats, and sheep will be spared being cut apart and killed, thanks to an unprecedented donation from PETA of $1 million in advanced simulators to medical training programs in Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia.
As The New York Times reported, PETA has entered into a landmark partnership with medical simulation manufacturer Simulab to modernize surgical training in nine countries with a donation of 64 state-of-the-art TraumaMan simulators.PETA's donation will fully replace the cruel and crude use of animals in Advanced Trauma Life Support courses at dozens of hospitals and universities throughout Bolivia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Mexico, Mongolia, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago. Until now, these nine countries have had some 4,000 doctors crudely cut holes in the chests, throats, abdomens, and limbs of approximately 1,000 live dogs, goats, pigs, and sheep every year because of limited budgets that have prevented them from purchasing simulators.

PETA's donation—which is supported by our wonderful donors and a generous matching grant from the McGrath Family Foundation of San Diego—means that these programs will now exclusively use the superior TraumaMan simulator, which replicates a breathing, bleeding human torso and features realistic internal organs, ribs, and layers of skin and tissue.
This lifesaving global partnership would not be possible without your continued support, and as we start the new year, we look forward to working together to win more victories for animals in laboratories around the world.

[ltr][size=36]9 Countries End Cruel Animal Labs, Thanks to PETA and TraumaMan More Sharing Services 18 Share on emailComments (90) Written by Michelle Kretzer | January 13, 2014 Nine countries, three continents, and thousands of animals’ lives saved. PETA has helped medical training programs in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Mexico, Mongolia, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago to stop cutting apart and killing animals in surgery courses and instead start using life-like human-patient simulators. How? We purchased 64 state-of-the-art TraumaMan surgical simulators and donated them to the programs. TrauMan Simulator Until now, limited budgets have prevented these programs from teaching Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses with the same modern simulation equipment that’s standard in the U.S. and many other nations. As a result, trainees at dozens of hospitals and universities were required to cut holes into the chests, throats, abdomens, and limbs of thousands of live dogs, goats, pigs, and sheep. In partnership with TraumaMan manufacturer Simulab Corporation and with financial support from the McGrath Family Foundation of San Diego, our members, and PETA Germany, PETA was able to end these crude animal laboratories and provide thousands more doctors each year with access to the sophisticated TraumaMan simulator. This lifesaving training tool replicates the anatomy and physiology of a real human torso, including realistic layers of skin and tissue, ribs, and internal organs. The TraumaMan simulators better represent human patients, allow trainees to repeat difficult procedures until mastered, and have been shown to teach lifesaving procedures better than cutting into animals does. As we’ve said before, moving science and medicine away from archaic animal use benefits doctors, their patients, and animals. And this program is a case in point. JAUARY 30TH 201

It’s the end of January, and already many of us are struggling to keep up our New Years’ resolutions!

By now, you might be kicking yourself for not going to the gym enough, picking up that French textbook, or eating more fruit!

But even though it’s already 2014, there is another New Years’ resolution you can still make – a meaningful, life-saving resolution that only takes a few minutes of your time.

Please,  make a donation to Cruelty Free International, and help to save countless animals in 2014

2013 was an incredible year for us – animals were saved worldwide from the horrifying cruelty of cosmetics testing, as the cruelty-free movement, and nation-wide bans on this practice, swept across the globe. One million people have already publically objected to cosmetics testing on animals!
ANIMAL TESTING - Page 6 3496158_button
Time and time again, we have proved that the work we’re doing translates to animals lives, saved from cosmetics testing – but we still have a long way to go, and we desperately need your help to continue.

Our New Years resolution is to work to end this out-dated and shockingly cruel practice, once and for all. Please, Aurlie, make a donation today to help save defenceless animals from even more suffering in the name of beauty.

This is a New Years’ resolution which truly does make a difference.

Over a million people are demanding an end to animal testing in cosmetics globally! We are proud to announce that our Global Pledge has received over a million signatures! The pledge, run in conjunction with The Body Shop, calls for a worldwide ban on animal testing for cosmetics. Thank you so much for adding your voice to our call for governments and businesses to make cosmetics cruelty-free. We made the announcement this morning at Jakarta Fashion Week in Indonesia, and called on the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), headquartered in Jakarta, to make the region cruelty-free. This is the first of many events where we will be presenting your signatures to governments and regulators around the world. The Body Shop supported Cruelty Free International by asking customers in stores across 65 countries to sign a pledge calling for an end to these tests on animals. It has been the largest and most ambitious campaign ever to seek a global ban on the use of animals to test cosmetics. A European Union ban on animal tested cosmetics was widely celebrated in March 2013, and we are continuing to campaign for a global ban as over 80% of the world still allows animals to be used in cruel experiments for cosmetic products. Cruelty Free International’s CEO, Michelle Thew, said: “With the fantastic support of The Body Shop we have been able to carry out the largest global campaign to call for a ban on animal testing for cosmetic purposes. A million voices have spoken and we are more determined than ever.” With your support we will call on Governments around the world to ban animal testing for cosmetics. TAKE ACTION STAY UP TO DATE: Please like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. BE INFORMED: Visit crueltyfreeinternational.org for more information on cosmetics testing on animals and the humane alternatives available. DONATE: Please make a gift to enable our experts to persuade governments and regulators around the world to use humane alternatives to animals testing.

FEBRUARY 8TH 2014

Look what we’ve done so far in 2014

2014 has only just begun and Cruelty Free International is already having a significant impact this year! Here are just some of our achievements so far: Korea Cruelty Free International’s Director of Policy, Dr Nick Palmer visited Korea for a week of meetings with politicians and the cosmetics industry. We have been encouraged by the Government’s openness to change and hope to see Korea follow in the footsteps of the EU, India and Israel by enforcing a ban in the near future. You can find out more here. Brazil Following extensive campaigning by Cruelty Free International in Brazil, including our petition with over 120,000 signatures, the Governor of São Paulo has passed a law to ban animal testing for cosmetics in the state. This is the first such ban in Latin America and, with São Paulo being the main industrial region of Brazil, it is a hugely significant step in our campaign for a nationwide ban. Find out more here. Japan In Tokyo, Cruelty-Free International, our partners JAVA and The Body Shop met with and delivered our global pledge with over a million signatures to Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, and appealed to the Japanese Government to start putting plans in place to prevent further unnecessary suffering for thousands of animals. You can find out more here. Canada Cruelty Free International’s US Campaigns Manager, Monica Engebretson, and The Body Shop Canada met with the leader of the Canadian Green Party, Elizabeth May MP. We presented our global pledge of 1 million signatures calling for an end to cosmetics testing on animals and encouraged her to raise the issue with the Canadian government. Find out more here India India has this week issued its final draft regulations for the cosmetics ban. The leading Indian pharmaceutical portal Pharmabiz reports the precise wording, noting that the credit for the change is due to Maneka Gandhi MP, the head of Cruelty Free International's Indian partner organization, People for Animals. We hope to see the ban implemented soon. US Our U.S Campaigns Manager, Monica, went to Washington DC to appeal to the United States Government to listen to the collective voice of one million people and start putting plans in place to end animal testing for cosmetics. She met with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, the leading legislator working on cosmetics regulation reform in the United States, and presented her with our global pledge of over 1 million signatures. Find out more here. Our work for a global ban on animal testing for cosmetics follows bans in the European Union, India and Israel, and China’s recent announcement of acceptance of non-animal testing from June 2014. With your help we are continuing to make huge inroads in our global campaign to end the cruel use of animals to test cosmetics products. We are the only organization solely campaigning on this issue. Please continue to support us by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter now.

DECEMBER 23RD 2013

Thanks for your support in 2013 Dear Aurlie, It has been an extremely busy year for Cruelty Free International. We are the only organization campaigning solely for a global ban on animal testing for cosmetics and consumer products and with the help of our supporters we have made some amazing achievements for animals. We are moving ever closer to our mission to end testing on animals for cosmetics products throughout the world. Thank you so much for your help and support this year, we could not have achieved this much without you. Here are some of our achievements from 2013: In March, after 20 years of campaigning by our founding organization the BUAV, we celebrated the end of animal cosmetics testing in Europe. Our joint Global Pledge with The Body Shop calling for a worldwide ban on animal testing for cosmetics received support from over 1 million people! Cruelty Free International received support from some fantastic celebrities throughout 2013, including Peter Dinklage and Norman Reedus. We saw a major breakthrough for non-animal tested cosmetics in China following our attendance at a number of key meetings and work by our China Task force. India became the first country in Asia to ban animal testing for cosmetics and ingredients. Maneka Gandhi, founder of People for Animals - Cruelty Free International's partner in India was instrumental in making this happen. Following the launch our campaign in Brazil, and our petition which received over 120,000 signatures, Brazil has made moves towards a ban on animal tested cosmetics. SEPTEMBER 4TH 2013

Give Freedom. Share Freedom. Buy Freedom.

Injected. Gassed. Force-fed. Killed. Many thousands of animals are still routinely used for cosmetics testing worldwide. I know you'll agree this is just downright cruel and immoral. I appreciate, Aurlie, that as someone who cares about animals you may receive emails from a number of animal protection groups. And there are so many worthy causes out there needing support. But too often the animals that are most commonly used in cosmetics testing – rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice and rats – are overlooked. These intelligent and sentient, yet neglected, creatures desperately need your help today. We want Freedom for these animals. Freedom from suffering. Freedom from pointless cruelty. Freedom from the cages of the laboratories. Can you help us to give these animals Freedom? Freedom gives you a voice. A voice to speak out against the multi-billion pound companies that refuse to end animal tests; against the policies and governments that fail to see animals in laboratories as worth their concern or attention. A voice to say that this is 2013, and there is no excuse for animals to still be used to test shampoo, or lipstick, or sunscreen. You may have seen the recent news that after a 20 year campaign by our team, the European Union has banned the sale of new cosmetics tested on animals in all its member nations. But we’re not stopping there . With our dedicated team of leading scientists, policy experts and international lobbyists, we can create a groundswell that will ensure an entire world where innocent animals will no longer suffer in cosmetic tests. Our brand new animated video below shows just how far we’ve come – and how much more we need to do. But we can’t do it without you. People like you can truly make a cruelty free world possible. If you believe that we should make this happen, then please do these three things to help us free animals from cruelty: 1. Give Freedom - Make a donation to help us make the world cruelty-free. 2. Buy Freedom - Make sure you buy cruelty free products. 3. Share Freedom - Spread the word – we need an army of people like you! It will be a long, hard struggle but we have never been in a better position to rid the world of this appalling stain on the history of humanity and save so many animals from suffering. Please, stand up for what is right today! Thank you,

JUNE 28 2013
The beauty industry can have a very ugly side.
My name is Michelle Thew, and I am the CEO at Cruelty Free International – the only organisation working solely to end animal testing for cosmetics around the globe. Every day, I’m confronted by the hidden side of the global cosmetics industry; the real truth behind some products that doesn't get advertised on television and in magazines.
Pregnant female rabbits, force-fed a cosmetics ingredient, are then killed along with their unborn babies.
Rats, forced to consume a cosmetics ingredient before being killed, have their organs examined to see how the ingredient affected their bodies.
Cosmetics ingredients are rubbed onto the shaved skin of guinea pigs and ears of mice to see if they have an allergic reaction. They are then killed.

It may seem unbelievable, but this is the reality for countless animals around the world – and the reason? To produce yet another cosmetics product. Unbelievably, 80% of the world still allows this horrific and unnecessary practice to continue. Frankly, it’s inexcusable.
I’m telling you this, not only to expose this ugly truth, but also to let you know that there is a solution.
You.
Please, Aurélie, help us shut the door on animal-tested cosmetics forever.
With the support of people like you, we have already secured a huge victory for animals in Europe; in March of this year, the EU took the leap to ban cruel cosmetics forever.
But it’s just not enough. We want to make the entire world cruelty free, a world where animal-tested cosmetics exist in one place only – the history books.
That world is finally within our reach. We are closer now than we’ve ever been, but we desperately need vital donations to continue our work.
Please make a donation towards our work today, and help spare innocent animals from these cruel and unnecessary tests.
Thank you so much for your support.
Michelle Thew

Air France is flying monkeys to lab cruelty.
Air France transports thousands of monkeys to their death every year. The company's motto of making the sky the best place on earth does not apply to monkeys on their way to laboratories.

Monkeys are cruelly captured in the jungle or bought in decrepit factory farms in Asia before being shipped in horrendous conditions to pharmaceutical laboratories using them in painful, invasive and deadly experiments. Meanwhile, major airlines such as Lufthansa, United Airlines, Alitalia, British Airways or American Airlines have made the decision to end their involvement in such transportation.

Tell Air France to stop transporting monkeys to laboratories.

"Once Air France delivers these monkeys to laboratories (...) they are deprived of everything meaningful and necessary for them to be happy(...)they are desperately lonely, traumatised and psychologically damaged," said Jane Goodall, world renowned primatologist and UN messenger of peace.

Monkeys are starved and restrained in order to force them to participate in cruel experiments. According to Goodall, the monkeys “are violently force-fed chemicals, inflicted with brain damage, crippled, addicted to cocaine or alcohol, deprived of food and water, or psychologically tormented and ultimately killed."

Air France is hiding behind the scientific need for testing subjects, stating that “the use of primates is vital for research in many medical areas”, ignoring the monkeys well-being and turning a blind eye to their cruel fate.

Tell Air France to stop participating in this cruel business -- NOW.

Help Keep Lost and Stolen Dogs and Cats Out of Labs

Across the United States each year, a small handful of Class B animal dealers—also known as "random source" dealers—acquire dogs and cats who may have been stolen from yards, picked up on the streets, taken from animal shelters, or obtained fraudulently from well-intentioned people who place "free to a good home" ads. These dealers turn around and sell thousands of these dogs and cats—many of whom were once someone's faithful companion—to laboratories, where they are cut into, poisoned, and killed in cruel experiments. There are eight active random source dealers in the U.S., five of which are currently under federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violating animal welfare laws, including for illegally obtaining and selling animals from undocumented sources, falsifying records, and mistreating animals. Because of rampant illegal activity in this industry, both the National Institutes of Health and the National Research Council have endorsed an end to the random source system. Further, Congress has introduced the Pet Safety and Protection Act of 2011 (H.R. 2256) to prohibit Class B dealers from selling animals to laboratories. If passed, H.R. 2256 would provide more safety and security for the dogs and cats with whom many of us share our homes and would prevent thousands of homeless animals from winding up tormented and killed in laboratories. Please use the form below to ask your congressional representatives to co-sponsor and support the Pet Safety and Protection Act of 2011, which would prohibit Class B Dealers from selling lost, abandoned, and stolen animals to laboratories.
