Manic Panic Hair Bleaching Kits

Vampire Red Hair-Dye (Manic Panic)

Manic Panic will certainly not suit everybody, I admit it. Some of the products offered (hair-dyes, nail polish, make up) could be considered transhy/punk or even gothic. But the brand is for sure appealing to a lot of people, and Vegans can find what they want as well!

All the products to dye or bleach hair are vegan, and the brad clearly mentions it in the products presentation. However, it seems that these are the « only » vegan things at Manic Panic (it is still a lot). I used the « Vampire Red » semi-permanent color cream. Know that you have to wear latex gloves (to avoid stains on your fingers), a brush (to apply the product), a towel (to protect your shoulders) and maybe a mobcap (for the waiting time). It is written to wait from 15 to 30 minutes, after having read some advice on the web I waited 1 hour 30 to make sure it will stay. I think I was right because even after a week, I still have some red water in my shower, and yet the color is still as bright. I think that it is a good value for money, all the more so I used only a third of the pot (NB: my hair is at my ears’ level).

I also tried the bleach, so for this product I have a piece of advice : try to apply it pretty quickly because it is quite strong and you will soon want to scratch your head, it can even become hard to stand. Knowing that for it to be really effective you can have to wait up to 2 hours. The result was satisfying on my natural hair color, however because of my repetitive red hairdyes, the lengthy parts had only turned bright carrot ginger.

Ingredients: Aqua (water, eau, agua), guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chlorie, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, stearalkonium chloride, glycerin, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, DMDM hydantoin, formic acid (acide formique, acido formico), propylene glycol, basic orange 31, basic red 51

Brand: Manic Panic

Price: $15,75 for 4oz (€ pour 150gr)

Store: Online, New York City Store

The result after 7 days of washing my hair dye every other day but rinsing it every day. Roots are darker as I am originally dark-ash blond, and it is more or less red on the length as my former color was ginger/very light brown. The color has a tendency to fade a bit (middle picture), but I wash my hair often and with hot water so it does not help to keep the original color.

EDT: after 3 weeks, still with the same washing frequency written above my color is way more fade now ; but I repeat that i do absolutely nothing to keep really bright. So I am still with the idea that this product is satisfying, and I regret neither the purchase, not the use of the product.

Posts:468Vegan bleach kits (possibly hair dye)
I was wondering, since one of these days I'd love to dye my hair an unnatural colour...just because:P

Does anyone know where I could find a vegan bleachkit and hair dye (in colours like purple/pink/blue etc.) in erm England?

Since I've tried looking for it in the Netherlands but so far have only found vegan hair dye..but not bleach kits (my hair's a dark brown>_<)...

And I've tried looking for it on the internet, couldn't find any shops in England, though maybe I wasn't looking good enough.

Did find some on veganessentials.com but I hope to make that my last resort since shipping is quite expensive and a couple of other reasons:/ Reply With Quote

Posts:338The only vegan hair die I know of is lemon juice. You do have to be careful with it, but you can lighten your hair very much with a little lemon juice and sunshine. If you end up with lemon juice anywhere else on your body, you'll end up with major blisters though. Lemon Juice also works if you can put it on in strips. You can have dark strips and blond strips. Be a zebra if you want... Just a thought. Reply With Quote

Posts:1,173i think "RAW" and "SPECIAL EFFECTS" dyes are vegan.

i think they sell bleach kits also.

raw is good, but dont buy pink, pink doesnt work, AT ALL its utter crap.

special effects is well..special, it dyes practically everything after you dye it, the back of your shirt, your pillow when you go to sleep, etc. but it's super vibrant and lasts a long time. Reply With Quote

Posts:1,108Spaz got to it before me. haircrazy.com has the best deals on hairdye in the UK (even the ever so elusive SFX) and shipping's cheap.

Full ingredient disclosures are on the website.

Ehm I'm not sure lemon juice'd get my hair 'bleach blond' heh but I can always save it for when I'm absolutely desperate for a new colour^_^

I'll have to keep that website in mind then..

I thought I found some vegan hair dye in London (Manic Panic), 'cause I had checked the brand's website and it said their products are 'guaranteed vegan'..and I asked the girl at the store about it and she was all: Yup! ALLLLL our make up is vegan.

I was so excited about it that I forgot to check the ingredients myself

Which I'm not going to let happen again 'cause...

it turns out the hairdye contains BEESWAX>_<

I'm not sure what their definition of 'vegan' is

I'm already in Holland so I can't exactly go back to the store either:\

But yeah, next time I'll steer clear of 'Manic Panic' and just focus on 'RAW' and 'Special Effects'!

Should I send Manic Panic an e-mail about the 'cera alba' thingy? Reply With Quote

Posts:1,312Special Effects advocate here... if it's available through the website that was mentioned earlier, GET IT. I've been using it for years and in my experiences, Special Effects has outshined Manic Panic by a long shot (MP colors tend to come out "muddy" on my hair even when it's highly bleached and they fade very unevenly and pastel-ly.. I wonder if it's got to do with that beeswax, hmmm.. lol) and Raw is a joke. Special Effect's bleach kits are decent as well.

hair1

This is me a few years ago with a SFX color called Hot Lava, freshly done over bleached.

hair2

This is the b/f and I a few years ago (don't mind the faces): him, with Electric Blue (a few weeks of fading) and me with Atomic Pink, which had also a few weeks of fading. Both over bleached.

The thing I especially like about SFX is that the colors actually get brighter and more brilliant for a few weeks before they start to fade (provided you bleach first!). Two weeks ago, I used Deep Purple and at first it was so dark, it almost looked black. I've washed my hair probably 7 or 8 times since then and the purple just gets more brilliant every time. I give it another 3 weeks before it starts to fade at all and another 2 or 3 after that before I have to touch up.

The biggest problem with SFX: your roots grow in before the color gets bad enough to need a touch-up!

Good luck in whatever you decide, and you can always feel free to PM me with questions about coloring/SFX Reply With Quote

Sorry for not replying any sooner, veggieboards doesn't always let me log in>_<

Aw, thanks I might just take your offer hehe...

SFX would definitely be my first choice since I've read tons of great stuff about it and it's actually 100% vegan...so I'm definitely going to order it next time.

but yeah for now manic panic will have to do...

Those colours in the pictures look absolutely awesome though Reply With Quote
