Do You Have 30 Seconds to Help Save a Life

Mali is the Philippines' only captive elephant—and perhaps one of the world's saddest. In the wild, elephants roam territories of up to 50 kilometers every day, but Mali is confined to a barren, concrete enclosure at the Manila Zoo, which itself covers an area of only 0.055 square kilometers. She has lived this way, totally alone, every day for about 33 years. But Mali has an opportunity for a second chance at life. A sanctuary would be able to provide Mali with vast spaces to roam, ponds to bathe in, fresh vegetation, foraging opportunities, and the company of many other elephants (she has not seen another elephant in about 33 years). President Benigno Aquino III has issued a directive stating that Mali's health must be evaluated and that transferring her to a sanctuary should be considered, but some officials are stalling.

Helping Mali is as easy as signing this petition: Change.org/SaveMali. It only takes 30 seconds, but it would make a world of difference for Mali and mean so much to the compassionate Filipinos rallying for her freedom. After you've signed, please share with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter why it's so important to sign it.

Urgent! Take Action to Save Lonely, Miserable, Elephant

sign petition http://www.change.org/SaveMali

Imagine, if you can, a youngster, shipped to a strange and frightening place, never to see her family or home ever again. But no alert is ever issued, no reward for her safe return offered. This is because the victim is an elephant, Mali, the lone elephant at the Manila Zoo. This nursing baby was taken from Sri Lanka in 1974 and has spent the last 35 years in a small, concrete pen. Try to imagine living your whole life in a room the size of a bedroom, seeing the same four walls every day. You'd have no friends or companionship and nothing whatsoever to pass the time or provide you with comfort. You'd never get to leave. That's exactly what life is like for Mali. Mali is a mere shell of the magnificent being she's meant to be. She is the only captive elephant in the Philippines, and she needs to be retired without delay.

The Office of the President has issued a directive stating that Mali should be considered for transfer to a sanctuary after an evaluation of her health. A sanctuary can offer her thousands of acres to roam, ponds to bathe in, fresh vegetation to eat, foraging opportunities and, most importantly, the company of many other elephants. But despite the fact that PETA has offered to cover the entire cost of the transfer, authorities are stalling PETA's efforts to faciliate Mali's move to a sanctuary. Take action now to free Mali! peta2 Helps Liberate Ben the Bear

Do you remember Ben the bear?

This was Ben at Jambbas Ranch—a filthy roadside zoo in North Carolina, where he spent several years confined to a cage on hard concrete. Ben was in prison, although he'd done nothing wrong.

Thanks to PETA, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, concerned citizens, and peta2 Street Teamers who fought for Ben, he has been rescued and released to a sanctuary in California!

Check Ben out now:

Ben will spend the rest of his days doing the things that bears do naturally—no longer confined and neglected. But there are other animals at Jambbas who need your help. Speak up for them now!

For all animals,

Keep Animals Out of Jambbas PRISON!

https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=4281&autologin=true&utm_campaign=0812%20p2%20Ben%20Bear%20Action%20Alert&utm_source=peta2%20E-Mail&utm_medium=Alert

Following a lawsuit brought by two local citizens—with the support of PETA and the Animal Legal Defense Fund—Jambbas Ranch, a filthy roadside zoo in North Carolina, has been found to be in violation of state cruelty-to-animals laws. The court found that Jambbas' treatment of Ben, a bear Jambbas kept confined to a tiny, barren pen made of concrete and chain-link fencing, caused him to suffer in violation of North Carolina law. The court also noted that Jambbas even failed to meet Ben's most basic veterinary, dietary, and environmental needs.

Fortunately, Ben has been given a chance at a new life at the Performing Animal Welfare Society sanctuary in California. He can now splash in his very own pool, rub his back on trees, and sleep soundly in a large straw nest or under oak trees.

But hundreds of animals are still suffering at Jambbas. In fact, inspectors routinely find animals in dire need of veterinary care at Jambbas—and sometimes even dead animals.

And despite the cruel conditions that caused Ben to suffer in violation of state law, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) continues to renew Jambbas' Animal Welfare Act (AWA) license year after year. Enough is enough.

Urge USDA officials to revoke Jambbas' license immediately, before even more animals suffer.

* (Edit Letter Below) I am writing to urge you to revoke the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) license of Jambbas Ranch, a squalid roadside zoo where USDA inspectors have repeatedly found sick animals in dire need of veterinary care--and even dead animals. Jambbas' chronic violations of the AWA alone disqualify it from possessing an AWA license, and now Jambbas has been found to be in violation of North Carolina cruelty-to-animals laws for its cruel treatment of a suffering bear. This gives the USDA the clear authority to revoke Jambbas' license, and it is crucial that you exercise that authority before even more animals suffer and die. Can I please hear back from you soon that you are revoking Jambbas' AWA license?

PETA Helps Liberate Ben the Bear!
After a long and hard-fought battle by PETA, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and concerned citizens, “Ben the Bear” has been rescued from filthy, cramped conditions at a North Carolina roadside zoo and will now live out the rest of his life at the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a beautiful wildlife sanctuary in northern California!

Before his relocation, Ben spent six long years imprisoned at Jambbas Ranch. Jambbas personnel looked at Ben as nothing more than “Attraction no. 2″ and locked him away in a small chain-link cage. Ben could never do anything that he wanted to do—whether it was eating when he wanted, playing, or running.

Ben’s world consisted of nothing more than a barren 12-foot-by-22-foot concrete floor surrounded by a chain-link fence, and all he had was a ball, some moldy stumps of wood, and a rusty water trough. He was fed dry dog food, which his “caretakers” dumped onto the same concrete floor where he urinated and defecated. His interaction with others was limited to being gawked at by passersby, listening to screaming children, and getting the occasional piece of bread tossed to him by a tourist.

Ben spent most of his waking hours pacing, a result of extreme deprivation and a sign of chronic distress. Two concerned citizens saw him and agreed to take action. With PETA’s help, they filed a cruelty-to-animals lawsuit. Their case was heard by Cumberland County Court District Judge Kimbrell Tucker, who saw that the evidence was clear: Ben’s needs were “not being met dietarily, veterinarily, and, most importantly, environmentally.” The judge stated that Ben’s enclosure did “not meet the requirements … for this bear’s health and well-being.” She issued a preliminary injunction that allowed PETA to transfer Ben to California pending her final ruling in the case. A happy day!

When Ben explored his vast new, spacious habitat for the first time, he pawed at and smelled the ground—likely the first time he had ever felt grass beneath his paws. Within minutes, he was already bathing and splashing in his own pool, ridding his body of grime for the first time in years. That night, he slept soundly on a bed of straw.
On August 27, the court again ruled in Ben’s favor, this time issuing a final order, and the sanctuary is now his permanent home! Ben will continue to bask in the sun, roll in the grass, splash in the water, and for the first time, Ben gets to live like a bear.

Share Ben’s story with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter now, and urge them never to buy a ticket to a zoo or circus where animals like Ben are imprisoned.

overview petition
Target: Surabaya Governor, Indonesian Government, Zoo's and Aquaria Indonesia
Sponsored by: Cee4life Conservation & Environmental Education 4 Life
The animals of the Surabaya Zoo in Indonesia have been deliberatly neglected and abused, and many have starved to death due to the internal conflict of the Surabaya Government and new owners of the Surabaya Zoo. This is a vile situation where the animals of the zoo, including critically endangered and protected species, are suffering extreme agonising pain and neglect, leading many to death. This situation can be stopped as soon as the humans stop their egos.
The Tigress in this photo is Melani. She suffered digestive problems at Surabaya due to being fed meat tainted with chemicals and pestisides over the years. Although the meat supplier was changed 3 years ago, Melani was a hopeless case with her internal digestive system destroyed. She is now on the brink of death unable to digest any food at all and euthanisation is a possibility.

Prior to this petition, the Surabaya Government has been urged repeatedly to end this human conflict, they have not. For once and all, these horrific stories of animals suffering immensely at the hands of Surabaya Zoo, must stop. So now with your help, lets speak as loud as we can for these animals.
Please sign and share far and wide.
Thankyou
